Medical tourism is one of the quickest and largest growing industries in the world. As the number of uninsured people and those with high deductibles continue to go up, many of them opt to be treated outside their native land, where they can manage to pay for the treatments they need in a timely fashion. Medical Tourism in India offers low cost, or cost effective, medicaltreatments with no waiting lists and accessibility of skilled and experienced doctors so medical tourists around the globe are flocking like never before. Now day’s expectation is that Medical Tourism will continue to grow up at a rapid rate of speed and continue offering medical treatments to tourist at a fraction of the cost they can get it at home for.
India is considered among the best in international medical tourism destinations. Patients get excellent healthcare services in India. Many foreign nationals worry about the quality of facilities and care they will receive out of the country. There are many well qualified doctors and hospitals in India. Medical procedures often cost half as much (or less) in India as compared to the U.S. Even including the cost of travel and a hotel stay, it can be cheaper to have procedures done out of the motherland than to have them done at home. Low cost treatment does not necessarily mean lower healthcare standards.
A wide range of exceptional medical treatment packages are offered in India at a very reasonable price. All the hospitals in India offer advanced medical technologies & health care facilities by using the same medical knowledge and technology at a substantially low price. Doctors in India are well trained and experienced, multi-lingual, with quite a lot of of them having undergone professional training in US, you can be assured that you are in the most capable of hands.

Key strengths of the country for medical tourism

Indian nurses are some of the highly trained and compassionate in the world.

If you are just looking for a change from your busy life, then India has many wellness / holistic medical centers where you can get traditional massages and Ayurvedic therapies.

1. High standards in medical, surgical care and patient handling

Many hospitals and health centers specialize in certain fields such as cardio thoracic surgery, dentistry, ophthalmology, etc. Many healthcare facilities organize seminars and conferences where they invite leading doctors from around the world. World class diagnostic centers, blood banks and imaging centers have been set up.

2. Low cost treatment

The cost of getting treatment in India is very low even when comparing with other medical tourism countries. It is at the most 10% to 20% of what will be charged in the US or UK. Above all you will find the same standards upheld that you would have found in your country.

3. Fluent English speaking hospital staff

There is high professionalism in the Indian medical industry. All doctors, nurses and most paramedical staff will speak to you in English. Now you don't have to worry about not being understood. And this eliminates the need for a translator.

4. Waiting times for surgeries and other treatment is lower than in other countries

Many patients come to India after learning that they would have to wait for months to undergo a similar surgery in their country. Rather than waiting for a long time and suffer in the meanwhile, flying abroad for medical treatment is a much better option.

8. India has many tourist attractions that offer healing environs and other rewarding experiences

India has a rich cultural and historical past, and is well connected to all places by train, bus and flight. Travel is also very economical and easy. When you are done with your medical procedure, you can visit the many tourist destinations in India. Many of the people who come to India for health tourism end up visiting the country.

Robot Assisted Mitral Valve Repair Surgery in India

In addition to avoiding the pain and trauma of sternotomy and rib spreading, robotic mitral valve repair may provide patients with the following benefits over open surgery:
  • Less risk of infection
  • Less blood loss and need for blood transfusions
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Significantly less pain and scarring
  • Faster recovery
  • Quicker return to normal activities
  • And a potentially better clinical outcome
Please note that not all patients are candidates for robotic surgery. Your surgeon will provide you with the most appropriate treatment option after thoroughly assessing your condition.

What is the Mitral Valve?

The mitral valve controls blood flow through the left side of the heart. When it opens, the mitral valve allows blood to flow into the left ventricle, the heart’s main pumping chamber. When the left ventricle contracts, the mitral valve closes in order to prevent blood from flowing back toward the lungs.
Sometimes the mitral valve is abnormal from birth. It can also become damaged by infection, with age or from heart disease.

What is Mitral Valve Prolapse?

If the mitral valve leaflets cannot tightly seal the left ventricle, this is called prolapse. With mitral valve prolapse, some blood flows back into the atrium – a condition called regurgitation. Regurgitation can make the heart work harder, leading to further valve damage and increasing the risk of heart failure.

Mitral Valve Prolapse Treatment Options

The treatment options available to a person with mitral valve prolapse depend on the severity of your condition. Some patients may not require any intervention. Others may be prescribed medications. However, if your symptoms become severe, your doctor may recommend mitral valve prolapse surgery. There are two basic types of valve prolapse surgery:

Valve Replacement  - In valve replacement, your surgeon cuts out the damaged valve and replaces it with a new, artificial valve.

Valve Repair  - Valve repair involves the surgeon reconstructing your valve using your own tissues.

Robot Assisted Heart Procedures are done to treat a variety of conditions:

1. Robot Assisted Mitral Valve Repair may be used to treat:
  • Stenosis (narrowing) of the mitral valve
  • Regurgitation (leakage) of the mitral valve
2. Robot Assisted Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) may be used to treat
  • Blockages in the heart's arteries
  • Severe chest pain ( angina ) that has not improved with medicines
3. Robot-assisted Atrial Septal defect repair may be used to treat a hole between the upper chambers of the heart that does not close properly during foetal development.
4. Robot-assisted Biventricular Pacemaker lead placement may be used to treat heart failure due to Atrial Fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm in the upper chambers of the heart)

Healthcare has become a specialty in India : Best Medical treatment in India

India and Medical Tourism

Despite—or because of—the global economic downturn, India’s medical travel industry is clipping along at a 30 percent growth rate annually. India welcomes most of its cross-border travelers from the immediate region (e.g. Bangladesh, the Turkic States, the Middle East and East Africa). However, some of those gains have arisen from increasing numbers of Americans, Canadians, and Europeans seeking treatment, particularly the more expensive cardiac and orthopedic surgeries, for which health travelers can save tens of thousands of dollars compared to the cost of treatment at home.

India’s official national health policy encourages medical travel as part of its economy’s “export” activities, although the services are performed within India. The government uses revenues generated from medical travel to increase its holdings in foreign currency. With government and corporate investment solidly behind its healthcare system, more international hospitals and super-specialty centers are opening every year.

Heart care has become a specialty in India, Success and morbidity rates are on par with those found in the US and Europe, with major surgeries at up to 15 percent of the cost.

Besides the attractive medical packages in India, the chance to explore the rich culture, natural beauty, and vivid landscapes of this gorgeous Asian country draws many medical tourists here.

Those unable to shed weight by conventional methods, and seeking weight loss surgery, may be disappointed by the prices of lap band or gastric bypass in the West.
Bariatric Surgery in India can be of help to such individuals, who want to get back in shape but are hindered by doctors' big bills.

Stem Cell treatments in India are picking popularity as the country gets more into research, and offers advanced treatments against a variety of ailments.

Orthopaedics here is another popular branch of medicine, as many westerners come to get hip and
knee surgery in India. Also, spine surgery in India is a boon for medical tourists looking to get rid of back problems, without being hit by the massive medical bills.

Ease and affordability of medical treatments here, also allows foreign patients to get optional treatments like plastic/cosmetic surgery and
face lift in India.

Even small issues like cataract, low vision and other eye problems, may fabricate huge bills from your local doctors.
Eye surgery in India is performed by qualified ophthalmologists, and is far more affordable than the West.

The cancer-stricken, who cannot afford to bear the high cost of combating this deadly disease, are turning towards oncology in India.
